Hate crimes (also known as bias-motivated crimes) occur when a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her perceived membership in a certain social group, usually defined by racial group, religion, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, gender identity, or political affiliation. "Hate crime" generally refers to criminal acts which are seen to have been motivated by hatred of one or more of the listed conditions. Q. Do people realize that if this hate crimes bill is signed into law, that pastors who preach against homosexuality could be arrested for hate speech? Last time I checked, we live in a country with freedom of speech, and that also means we have the freedom to express our opinions for and against homosexuality. I have never once heard a pastor preach about it from the pulpit in any manor that was hateful towards homosexuals. I for one am against gay marriage, but my reason is because I believe that homosexuality is wrong. I don't hate homosexuals, I hate the sin.
