Internet homicide refers to a killing in which victim and perpetrator met online, in some cases having known each other previously only through the Internet. Also Internet killer is an appellation found in media reports for a person who broadcasts the crime of murder online or who murders a victim met through the Internet. The first known murder of a victim met online was in 1996. Depending on the venue used, other terms used in the media are Internet chat room killer, Craigslist killer, Internet serial killer. Internet homicide can also be part of an Internet suicide pact or consensual homicide. Some commentators believe that reports on these homicides have overemphasized their connection to the Internet. Q. For my final project in my Legal Research course, I have to write a brief supporting a local police department's refusal to release a 911 tape of a homicide. I have searched the internet and tried to find cases, but am not having any luck. I was hoping that someone in law enforcement could give me an opinion on how I could make a valid argument why FOIA would not apply in this situation. You can speak in generalities or hypotheticals because all the information I have is that there is a 911 tape of a suspected homicide. I have no other information. Thanks for your time. Asked by Cesaria Barbarossa - Tue Mar 31 11:24:20 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Among other reasons, by releasing the tape you will hear the callers voice which if ID'd by listeners correctly could interfere. Also, any info given to the dispatcher by the caller would be heard and thus interfere with the investigation. It's fairly obvious why a 911 call of that nature would not be released until after an investigation. FOIA requests can be denied for a number of reasons, that is not un--usual. Q. What do you think would be more rewarding? Working the Gang Unit then transferring to Narcotics or working the Gang Unit and Transferring to Homicide? I want to make a difference in my Community and County, but I also want to bring a feeling of safety and security to the residents. I am very interesting in both options. I do not need information about either only your honest opinion about each.
