How come that very few people who committed fraud during the real estate boom never got prosecuted?
Q. Massive fraud were committed in the real estate industry during the boom, but very few went to jail. There were a lot of stories how real estate agents, brokers, lenders falsifies documents to get loans, etc. Overall, very few people got prosecuted and went to jail.

A. We are just at the very tip of the iceberg when it comes to prosecutions. It takes years before people are brought to justice on financial crimes.

How much time do you do for check fraud with a prior conviction?
Q. Someone I know is being charged with stealing a check, writing it for $2,000 signing and cashing it. She has a prior felony for credit card fraud. What kind of time is she looking at if convicted? She is no longer on probation. Been off probation for about 7 years maybe. Yes, obviously she deserves it. I am just worried about the kids. I am very close to them and thinking I may need to seek custody. This is someone in my family. Just wondering how much time I am looking at.

A. is she on probation? This would be a second felony. You won't see her for awhile. Offense Level Number of Offenders (% of Total) Average Time Served F5 40 (60%) 9 months F4 20 (30%) 15 months F3 7 (10%) 40 months these are 1st time offenders. This will be her second fraud conviction. I would almost double these numbers. I'm sorry. I hope everything works out.

Q. I know a person who tells their landlord that they make less money than they do., So they get cheaper rent, at the cost of tax payers.
