Q. I went to lawyer to ask recompense for the permanent damage of my health because of her evil deed before 20 years. According to Law, I do not have any right here because I was sending emails and because I was insulting her also. However, the mental damage caused of her remains. If an Internet crime is committed with many victims in various states, which jurisdiction does it belong to?
Q. Federal? The state the perpetrator resides in? Both?
Asked by Lux Aeterna - Tue Jul 18 20:40:29 2006 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think that depends on the type of crime, and the amount of money involved (I know there are certain types of theft that federal agencies won't touch unless it was at least a certain amount of money). I would assume that whatever state the person was physically in when they committed the crime would have criminal jurisdiction over the formal charges. From a civil standpoint, I think it probably becomes a sticky mess. Most likely it would depend on where the lawsuit is filed. But don't ask me, I'm not a lawyer and I know nuttin anyway...

A. Depending on how big the fish is then its worth catching it. If your computer or my computer gets hacked then thats way tooo small of a fish to fry. But if your life is in danger of course they will catch these hackers. But most of the time these hackers are from other countries which they dont have as strict rules and regulations that we have. One big example would be Nigeria. Their government doesnt care if they scam or hack people. Your best bet would be don't reply to emails you dont know and don't go on stupid websites ( suck as illegal websites (downloading free music or software) and porn websites) and you will be fine.

If someone admits to a crime on the internet, what should you do?
Q. What should you do if someone states that they rape people or commit similar crimes on the internet? Should you report it, and who should you report it to, if you don't know where they are in the country (U.S.) Should you take them seriously? It's not on Y!A. It's a real admission.

A. I think lots of people on here are just looking for attention and are here to troll, but I would report them to Y!A - if you haven't done it before, there are two options - you have to check whether it violates Y!A policies, or if it violates the law.

Where/how do I report Internet crime?
Q. Like other people using the Internet, I receive unsolicited emails that are clearly scams and frauds. Most of these are meant to trick me into giving up personal information that can be used for identity theft or to access and clear out my bank account. I have also received a couple that come in the guise of job offers that are either identity-theft related or they are looking for patsies to unknowingly involve in money laundering schemes. I would like to pass these emails onto law enforcement, the FBI, or whichever is the appropriate agency dealing with cyber crime. Is there a reporting site on the Internet?

A. Bullying is bullying, be it done in the real world or in cyberspace. It is a disgusting thing to do and causes a lot of distress to the victim. In some ways, cyber bullying is slightly worse, as the person is hiding behind a keyboard. It sickens me, regardless of the arena it is in.

A. The FBI has a computer crimes division known as the IC3, or the Internet Crime Complaint Center. You can go there to file reports of illegal fraud online. I am a user of Craigslist.org and I have been contacted many times by people trying to scam me by having me ship expensive items to foreign countries like Nigeria. Each time I just go to the FBI's IC3 and file a report. When you file a report there, it gets submitted to the FBI. The FBI then sends the information out to your local law enforcement authorities (if needed) and they will contact you about getting printed documents that show proof of this crime. Sadly, I have reported many people to the IC3 and have never been contacted by the police or FBI, simplt because there really isn't… [cont.]

Internet Crime Complaint Center?
Q. I submitted a case to Internet Crime Complaint Center about a month ago but have not heard back from them or anywhere. The complaint was about a guy that would not return the money he owes me. This person won the auction I listed on ebay, then I shipped it out. But it was lost. USPS was supposed to reimburse the value to me but they did to HIM. I called him several times and he did say that he would send the money back to me in a week but he never did. I called but he just ignores. Are there any effective ways to legally punish him for "stealing" my money? I know lawyers are always there but... Internet Crime Complaint Center does not tell you if the complaint is filed or what the status on it is...

A. a similar thing happened to my friend. he was selling his bike to a person in another country and it turns out that they stole his bike and sent him a fake money transfer. he was out about $2000. It was a custom bike. eBay should have a number you can call about that kind of thing. if you make a big enough stink on the phone, yelling and screaming about it I'm sure they will help you out. Big corporations only tend to really get involved when there is yelling on one end. With eBay you can also rate this person as a bad buyer, and give details about the event that happened between the two of you. So either way you choose, start at eBay.
